G-BZAS  ISAACS FURY II

G -BZAS Isaac Fury is a home built replica of a 1930s fighter aircraft the Hawker Fury (RR kestrel Engine). The aircraft had been built to a very high standard by two former professional pilots. Although the project was originally started by Howard Brunt and was joined by Heinz Frick in the later stages. The project had taken 25 year to complete, the aircraft was finally tested by Heinz Frick at British Aerospace Dunsfold Airfield (where Heinz was employed as a test pilot). It became later marked as the 'Spirit of Dunsfold'.

The aircraft was later flown to a living aircraft museum at Bournemouth Airport. The original designer John O Issacs, who visited from time to time to look at the aircraft, said it was the best example of the type following the true lines of the Fury!

G-BZAS was unlike any other Fury keeping the true lines and having an inline engine fitted. The original prototype aircraft had a walther mikron engine fitted but the 60hp engine was found to be underpowered. G-BZAS was fitted with the experimental Canadian Airmotive (CAM )100 engine giving 100hp.

The Fury stayed at the museum until it closed and the owner moved the aircraft into his garage. After a period of time it was decided that he would sell the Fury to keep it in the air. Unfortunately the Fury entered what could have been the final chapter.

The Fury had been passed on to the next custodian to ensure that it would continue to fly. However in the following months after its permit renewal, the Fury unfortunately crashed during a landing attempt and was written off following the accident.

The Fury some time later was purchased and returned to Northumberland for restoration. Following a lengthy survey it was decided to rebuild all the wing sections with new spars. The rest of the airframe was repaired as required, as was the Damaged CAM engine. A new replacement propeller was commissioned by Hercules which was to give the aircraft a 10% improvement in performance.

Due to continued commitments the project was sold as a going concern to a growing Vintage flying group based at Westonzoyland in Somerset and is making good progress on its journey back to airworthiness.
